AMERICAN ROSE SOCIETY ARRANGEMENT SCORE CARD – 100 points 1. Conformance – 15 points Roses correctly named – 5 points Conformance to type of design per class – 5 points Other specific requirements of schedule – 5 points 2. Design – 30 points a. Balance – 5 points Visual stability. Actual or visual weight on either side of an imaginary central axis. b. Dominance – 5 points No equal amounts of color, shape or form c. Contrast – 5 points Differences in form, shape and/or color to develop interest. d. Rhythm – 5 points Rhythm, achieved by repetition, radiation, and/or variation; may be smooth, dynamic, graceful, gentle. Rhythm is the dominant visual path through the design. e. Proportion – 5 points Proportion refers to relative amounts of a component (ie, color) in relation to the other components of the design, and to the whole design. It also refers to the size of the arrangement to the allotted space. f. Scale – 5 points Scale is the size relationship of one component to another, and to the whole. 3. Perfection of the Rose(s) – 30 points Roses should be in peak condition, of good substance with fresh foliage and exhibition form. Other plant materials should also be in good condition. 4. Creativity and Expressiveness – 15 points Imaginative use and creative handling of materials 5. Distinction – 10 points Marked superiority in all aspects of the design; sets the design apart. Includes technical execution/construction. Friends and Roses Class 1 – “Peggy Waters” – Greater Harrisburg Rose Society Arranger’s choice of ORIENTAL STYLES. Staged on a standard table with an allotted space of 20 inches wide and 30 inches high with a base of 20 inches by 20 inches. This arrangement requires a back and baseboard whose actual size may be smaller than the allotted space for best presentation of the arrangement. Eligible for the ARS Oriental Award. Class 2 – “Leonie Bell” – Philadelphia Rose Society A SMALL ARRANGEMENT of arranger’s choice. Duke arrangement can use any type of roses. To be staged on a standard table with a space allotment of 22 inches wide, 21 inches high, and 22 inches in depth. Arrangement can be up to 20 x 20 x 20. Baseboard required, backboard optional.
