Text Box: Last but not least. I would like to say thank you to everyone who walked with me (and also carried me) during these past two years. We, collectively, have accomplished a lot. We completely changed our bylaws, changed the site and subsequently the philosophy of our rose show, we are in the process of putting on a District Convention and have committed to putting on the Mini- National again in 2009. Many organizations die under the pressure of the changes that we have implemented and commitments that we have undertaken. In fact, that is probably one reason why YARS will always grow. The words “we have always done it that way” or “that is what I do” have not and should never come out or our lips. It is the attitude of “ownership” and ‘hierarchy’ that effectively kills off any volunteer organization. Our membership is changing and growing and becoming. In the last two years, our members have stood up and we now have 13 CR’s. We have 6 Hort judges, and 2 Arrangement judges. Soon those numbers will increase as Curtis is running the marathon of becoming a Hort and Arrangement Judge in one year. I know how difficult this is to do, because I did the same thing some 15 years ago. Donna is also finishing up her apprentice in Arrangements, having finished her Hort several years ago. Our members are being recognized for their photography, horticulture, landscaping and arrangements. We are a dynamic group. And I am thankful and happy to be a small part of it.

Did You Know????
Anyone can participate in the Roses in Review survey!! You do NOT have to be an ARS member to have your input included on the new varieties of roses. Penn-Jersey District needs your help. Take a moment to go on the ARS website at www.ars.org and click on the roses in review. If you would rather do it by hand, or the website is not working properly, you will be getting a separate email from Curtis Aumiller. Any questions, please let us know.

Minutes from Last Meeting

The July 26th meeting was attended by Donna and Jr Smith, Larry and Bev Flinchbaugh, Nancy Redington, Patria Lawrence, Curtis Aumiller, Gayle Shore, Denise Fannon and Julia Saurbaugh.  The meeting was held at Gayle's lovely house.  Thank you for having us.
Corrections to last month's minutes included that there were people from Maryland that attended our show at the Brethren Home and that the distance to the show probably was not a reason people did not attend.  There were other rose shows the same weekend as ours.
The Treasurers report was read.  We still have a Cal Poly and Cl Rainbows End left from the roses that the club bought.  One small CD was rolled over.  The District Budget was drawn up.

DISTRICT CONVENTION
We planned to have 8 hort judges.   We were notified that we need 9 judges for the Rosedale Bowl which has 6 exhibition blooms (2 HT or grandifloras, 2 floribunda specimens and 2 shrub sprays).  Elaine Adler told Nancy Redington they will pay for extra judges that Bruce Monroe is saying that we need of it causes financial stress on our society.
JR brought in the new 6" birdcage displays for the arrangements.  They are maintenance free.
The Pennsylvania Room is booked for the Convention and has a terrace.  Tables are free and we will get credit towards the room rental for food sales for the weekend.  The menu for the meals will be put on our website.

The schedule should be available next week.
Donna has notepads that cost $68/hundred for in the registration packets.  It was decided to order 50 more.
Photography category will allow 4x6 and 5x7 photos.
